Tigers Fall 99-85 To Georgia Tech

Freshman guard Gerald Robinson scored 24 points to led a valiant effort by the Tennessee State University Tigers against ACC opponent Georgia Tech. But TSU succumbed to a strong second half inside game by the Yellow Jackets to drop a 99-85 decision at the Gentry Center in Nashville,

Tennessee State (1-1) battled Georgia Tech (1-1) on even terms in the first half taking as much as a seven-point lead (19-12) at 10:45 on LaDarious Weaver’s 3-pointer. Georgia Tech, however, went on a 13-2 run to move ahead of the Tigers 25-21 at the 6:58 mark. TSU closed out the half with a 39-35 lead.

In the second half, TSU saw their lead slip away as Ga. Tech closed in on the Tigers at 17:34 (46-45) and moved away over the next 5:03 to take a 65-54 lead. The Yellow Jackets’ Alade Aminu scored a career-high 25 pts utilizing his inside game to repeatedly score over the shorter TSU defenders. Georgia Tech maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the game to coast to their final 99-85 victory.

For TSU, Gerald Robinson finished the game with 24 points, Jerrell Houston and Bruce Price scored 15 points each and Dontrell Taylor added 10 points. Houston led all Tigers with six rebounds. Reiley Ervin dished out 8 assists for the Tigers.

The Tigers will next travel to Fairbanks, Alaska to play in the Top of the World Tournament. Their first opponent will be host Alaska-Fairbanks on Thursday, November 15th at 10:30p (CT). They will play two other games in the tournament on Saturday (11/17) and Sunday (11/18), opponents and times will be determined by tournament play.

Following the TOTW Tournament, TSU will play on December 3rd at Indiana, December 6th at OVC opponent Southeast Missouri State and at Eastern Illinois on December 8th. To finish out December, the Tigers will play at Belmont (12/17), at Vanderbilt (12/22) and at Illinois (12/20).
