TIGERS HOLD ON AT EASTERN ILLINOIS FOR 61-58 WIN
-- Reiley Ervin scores 19 to lead TSU to first road win of season, Bohannon's 3-pointers help seal win - Charleston, IL -- Tennessee State captured it's first road win of the season 61-58 over Eastern Illinois Saturday (01/20), moving their record to 9-10 overall and 5-4 in the OVC.. Junior guard Reiley Ervin led all scorers with 19 points, followed by Clarence Matthews (12) and Courtney Bohannon (11). All of Bohannon's points, including 3 for 3 from three-point range, came in the second half as the Tigers held off EIU's come-back efforts. The Panthers opened the game with a 4-0 lead (18:44), but TSU battled back for a 5-4 lead (17:32) on Larry Matthews dunk. The game stayed close throughout the first half with the scored tied four times until the Tigers forged to a five point lead (32-27) at the 3:16 mark. TSU took a 33-30 lead into the intermission. The second half was closely contested with Eastern Illinois tying the score (35-35) at the 18:55 mark, and taking the lead 41-40 at the 15:20 mark. The Tigers regained the lead at 43-41 (14:48) and fought off the Panthers the rest of the game with the largest margin at six points (54-48) at the 8:57 mark. TSU lost the battle of the boards 34-32 and shot 39.2 percent from the floor (20-51) and 52.6 percent (10-19) from the charity stripe. The Tigers, however, hit fifty-five percent (11-20) from beyond the 3-point arc. The Tigers will be in action again on Thursday, 1/25/07 at Eastern Kentucky and at home on Saturday, 1/27/07 when they host Tennessee Tech. Both games are set to tip-off at 7:30p.
