TENNESSEE STATE EDGES TOWSON, 49-47, IN LAS VEGAS INVITATIONAL
- TSU's Ladarious Weaver named to All-Tournament team - The Tennessee State Tigers evened their season record to 2-2, with a 49-47 win over Towson (MD) in the final day of the Findlay Toyota Las Vegas Invitational Tournament. TSU's Ladarious Weaver who scored 13 points in the game (10 in first half), was named to the All-Tournament team. The Tigers' Clarence Matthews was the game's leading scorer, tallying 14 points (12 in second half), pulling down 8 rebounds and recording 5 blocks, two in the final 1:00 to help preserve the win. Center Larry Turner added a career-high 14 rebound performance. On the game TSU got out to an early 7-2 lead (15:50), but Towson battled back to move ahead 13-12 at the 7:55 mark, enroute to a 25-24 lead at halftime. In the second half, Clarence Matthews scored 10 of the Tigers first 12 points to push the Tennessee ahead 38-36. The Big Blue went ahead 43-42 at the 4:00 mark but fell behind 47-46 with 2:42 remaining in the game. TSU forward Moraye Ivy put the Big Blue ahead 48-47 with 0:59 remaining. Towson had two shots blocked under the basket by Clarence Matthews inside the 0:10 mark and Ladarious Weaver was fouled after his rebound. Weaver hit the first of two free-throws for the final margin of victory 49-47. Tennessee State will next play at Alabama on December 2nd and Middle Tennessee State on December 4th , before opening their OVC season with games in Nashville on December 7th (Southeast Missouri) and December 9th (Eastern Illinois).
