TIGERS POWER PAST TREVECCA 86-60, IN FINAL EXHIBITION GAME
Open regular season at Western Kentucky on Sunday, November 19th. Junior Moraye Ivy scored nineteen (19) points off the bench to lead three other TSU Tigers in double figures to power past NAIA power Trevecca Nazarene University in TSU's final exhibition game of the season. Joining Ivy as scoring leaders were forward Clarence Matthews (17), guard Ladarious Weaver (13) and center Larry Turner (11). Freshman center Rashad Armstrong scored nine (9) points and added eleven (11) rebounds in the game. Point guard Reiley Ervin dished out a game high eight (8) assists. Matthews and Armstrong added 3 and 2 blocks, respectively. On the game, Trevecca opened and early 7-2 lead (16:34), but TSU tied the game 7-7 (15:51) on a tip-in by Moraye Ivy. The Tigers went on a 12-2 run for a 19-9 lead (11:54) over the smaller Trojans, then withstood a 13-3 rally for a 22-20 game late in the first half (5:15). TSU regained control and took a 39-33 lead into the locker room at the half. In the second half, TSU took control early with a 41-33 lead (19:49) and never looked back, building a double digit lead, 47-37 (17:18) and cruising to their final twenty-six point win. Tennessee State will open their regular season at 2:00p on Sunday, November 19th at Western Kentucky. The game will be part of a four-game road trip that will see the Tigers play at Kansas on Tuesday, November 21st. From there the Tigers travel to Las Vegas to complete play in the Findlay Toyota Tournament for games on Friday, November 24th against Prairie View A&M and Saturday, November 25th against Towson or Chattanooga.
