Tennessee State University head men's basketball coach Cy Alexander has announced the signing of Stephen Evans, a 6-9, power forward to play for the Tigers, beginning in the 2007-08 season. Evans, a product of Campbell High School in Atlanta, GA, comes to the TSU program from Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, IL, where he averaged 10.2 points and 9.8 rebounds leading Oakton to a 29-7 record and a spot in the NJCAA National Tournament in Danville, Illinois. Stephen chose Tennessee State University over Cal State Northridge, North Texas State and the College of Charleston. He is a 3.1 GPA student at Oakton and will graduate on May 15, 2007. "Stephen is a quality recruit and we are extremely happy that he chose to join our program," said coach Alexander. "He is a versatile forward who can face the basket and post up. He is a tremendous defensive player and has the ability to run the floor like a guard. He is also a great passer." Alexander concluded, saying, "Stephen is an outstanding young man and student. He will add quality depth to the TSU front line and should compete for a starting spot immediately."
