TIGERS' COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AGAINST LOYOLA (MD), 62-60.
NASHVILLE, TN-Tennessee State University dropped a 62-60 ESPNU Bracket Buster series game to Loyola (MD) on Saturday night in the Gentry Center. The Tigers (11-18) trailed by as many as 17 points (36-22) with 19:42 left in the second half to the Greyhounds but fought back to take the lead 60-59 on a three-point play by junior Andrae Belton with :31 seconds remaining. The Greyhounds Shane James hit a jumper with 22 seconds remaining in the contest, the Tigers' missed on their attempt with just six seconds remaining. Clarence Matthews led all scorers with 17 points and Andrae Belton added 10 for TSU. Larry Turner led the Tigers on the boards with seven rebounds. The Greyhounds had three players in double-figures as Marquis Sullivan and Josko Alujevic hit for 14 point each and Brett Harvey netted 11 points. The Tigers hit 37.3 percent from the field (22-59), 9.1 percent from beyond the arc (1-11) and 65.2 percent (15-23) from the charity stripe. Loyola hit 43.2 percent from the fiels (19-44), 39.1% from three-point range (9-23) and 65.2 % from the FT line (15-23). Tennessee State returns to conference play for the final two home games of the season on Thursday, February 22, as they host Morehead State and Saturday, February 24th against Eastern Kentucky.
