CHARLESTON, Ill. --- Cy Alexander gained his 300th career head coaching victory and Tennessee State gained its first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season as the Tigers defeated host Eastern Illinois, 84-68 Monday night. Alexander saw his team shoot 61 percent (31-51) from the floor and built as much as a 21-point lead on a pair of occasions down the stretch of the contest. Alexander is in his 19th season overall and his third at TSU. Wayne Arnold led the Tigers (2-2, 1-1) with 25 points, making 7-of-8 3-point field goals on the night. Bruce Price added 18, Kareem Grant 17, and Clarence Matthews 16 for the Tigers. TSU led 45-35 at halftime and EIU cut the deficit to single digits only once in the second half. Bobby Cathings led EIU with 20 points. The Panthers (0-6, 0-2) connected on 11-of-20 3-point field goals. The Tigers were playing their third road game in five days. TSU will be off until a Dec. 19 date at Southern Miss.
