NASHVILLE --- Rod Flowers has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the second time in as many weeks for the Tennessee State University basketball team. Flowers is the repeat winner for his performances in three Tigers' contests last week, which was capped in two Tiger victories in the Las Vegas Holiday Tournament last week. Flowers averaged 14 points, nine rebounds, and shot 56.7 percent from the floor. A 6-9, 240-pound post player from Huntsville, Ala., Flowers had a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds in a 75-72 overtime win over Cal State-Northridge in the team's first game in Las Vegas. In the Tigers' 75-69 win over Delaware State, Flowers scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds, making 8-of-9 field goal attempts. He made a field goal, three free throws, and came up with a key steal in the final minute to help stave off Delaware State's rally. Flowers is enrolled in graduate school at TSU and transferred for his senior year of play from Cincinnati. The conference office selects the player, newcomer, and freshman of the week each Monday afternoon during the course of the season.
