NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State basketball player Bruce Price has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year for the 2003-04 season. Price received his honor at the OVC Awards Reception held Thursday night on the eve of the tournament semifinals at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Nashville. In addition to his Freshman Player of the Year award, 6-3, 205-pound Price was also named to the All-OVC team as a second-team selection. The Freshman of the Year and All-OVC teams were elected in a vote of the conference's head coaches and sports information directors. "I think these are well-deserved honors for a young man who worked extremely hard for us this season to make progress," said TSU first-year head coach Cy Alexander. "With continued hard work and progress, hopefully he will be a first-team All-OVC selection in the future. I am very happy for him to be honored by the OVC." Price, a guard from Minneapolis, Minn., finished third in the OVC scoring race with a 17.6 points per game average. He was second in the conference in 3-point field goals made per game (2.63). He was also ranked eighth in the OVC in assists per game (4.0), seventh in steals per game (1.70) and 10th in both free throw percentage (.735) and 3-point field goal percentage (.341). Price is the fourth player from TSU to receive the award which began in 1991 and the first to receiver the honor since Kevin Samuel received the award in 1998. Price is the only freshman to be listed on any of the All-OVC first, second, or third teams this season. 2003-04 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAMS (as voted on by the league's head basketball coaches and sports information directors) FIRST TEAM NAME, SCHOOL POS.
