MOREHEAD STATE BREAKS AWAY FROMTIGERS IN SECOND HALF ON WAY TO WIN
MOREHEAD, Ky. --- Tennessee State saw host Morehead State pull away from a four-point lead at halftime to hand the Tigers an 89-75 defeat in Ohio Valley Conference play Saturday night. TSU trailed 41-37 at halftime against the Eagles who shot well in both halves. Morehead State shot 61 percent in the opening half and came back with 68 percent shooting in the final stanza en route to the win. "We had competed well in every OVC game, until tonight," said first-year head coach Cy Alexander. "We did not focus like we needed and at this stage in the season we have to be more mature mentally than we were tonight." The Tigers stayed close in the opening first half making nine of their 14 field goals in the first half. The Tigers made four in the final half. TSU finished the game 31-76 from the field for 41 percent. Morehead State held a 42-28 rebounding advantage. TSU missed both free throws while Morehead State was making 25-35 (71 percent). Bruce Price led TSU (4-16, 3-6) with 19 points while Roshaun Bowens had 16. Garrett Richardson added 11 and had six steals. Ricky Minard, the 2003 OVC Player of the Year, scored 28 points to lead Morehead State (11-10, 6-4) as all five starters scored in double figures. Minard also had 11 rebounds and nine assists. Chad McKnight had a career-high 23 points. TSU continues its road swing Monday night at Eastern Kentucky.
