Larry Williams will enter his first season at Tennessee State in 2013, having spent his previous five seasons at Miles as running back and special team coach.

At Miles College, he helped the Golden Bears win their first SIAC Western Division Title, SIAC Championship Game and Division II SIAC Championship in 2011.

Williams spent the 2006-07 season at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Fla. where he coached defensive backs and assisted as a special team’s coordinator. He also served as the video, academic coordinator and recruited the South Florida, Southwest Florida, Tampa and Jacksonville, Florida areas. After leaving Edward Waters, Coach Williams went to Florida International University as a graduate assistant.

Williams coached at his alma mater, Florida A&M University from 2002-06, serving as a graduate assistant linebackers and secondary coach for his first three seasons and defensive backs coach in 2005.

Prior to starting his collegiate coaching career, Williams was a player/coach in the secondary of the Tallahassee Thunder in the AFL2 league from 2001-02. The Thunder won the Southeast Division both years he played and the team finished with the top rushing defense in 2002.

As a graduate of Miami American High School in 1994, Williams went on to attend Florida A&M University, where he was a two-sport student-athlete from 1994-98, earning four letters in football and track & field. Williams played in the 1995 Heritage Bowl, 1995 and 1996 MEAC Championship teams, the 1998 Black College Championship team and helped the Rattlers to the 1996, 1997 and 1998 Division 1-AA Playoffs. In addition, Williams participated on the 1995 MEAC Indoor Champion and 1997 MEAC Outdoor Champion Track and Field teams. He graduated from Florida A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Design and Management in 1999.
