NASHVILLE --- Josh Green and Antonio Zita have been named Ohio Valley Conference Players of the Week for their efforts against Austin Peay. Green earned Newcomer honors, while Zita garnared his second Specialist award of the year.
Green intercepted a pass in the end zone with four minutes remaining to help the Tigers top No. 19 Austin Peay, 26-24. The redshirt freshman finished the game with seven tackles, five solo, including a tackle-for-loss. It marked Green's second interception in as many weeks, both coming in the end zone. Green guided the Big Blue defense that limited the Governors to a season-low 103 yards on the ground.
Zita was 4-of-4 on field goal attempts, including a career-long 50-yarder. Zita accounted for all of the Tigers points in the first half, connecting from 43, 22 and 36 yards in the second quarter. The second-year hit from 50 yards early in the fourth as the Tigers overcame a 15-point deficit to win by two. Zita also kicked two extra points to finish the game with 14 points, tying for the third-most by a kicker in program history. The four field goals tied for the second-most in a game in TSU history and tied for the most in a FCS game this season. Zita has made 17 field goals this season, tied for 11th in OVC single-season history, and seven shy of the OVC single-season record. The 17 made field goals are the most of any player at any level of NCAA football (FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III) this season. Zita currently ranks second nationally in field goals per game (2.13), fifth in field goal percentage (89.5%) and 17th in scoring (8.9 points/game). Only a sophomore, Zita has 29 career field goals which is third in TSU history.
The honor marks the fifth week a Tiger has won an OVC honor this season. Chris Rowland has earned two honors while Kaleb Mosley earned the specialist honor in week five.
