NASHVILLE --- The running back unit is the lone position group to return every member from a year ago. Te’kendrick Roberson earned a spot on the OVC All-Newcomer team after rushing for 527 yards on 100 attempts. The junior college transfer scored a touchdown, averaged 5.6 yards per carry and was one of three Tigers to have a run over 50 yards.
Roberson accomplished the feat on two occasions. The first came on a 69-yarder at Southeast Missouri and followed with a 58 yard touchdown run against Jacksonville State a week later. Earl Harrison busted a run of 51 yards at SEMO, while Shawn McColley exploded for a 70 yard scoring dash against JSU.
McColley averaged 6.8 yards per touch as he went for 324 yards on 48 carries. Harrison was limited to action in six contests, but still finished third on the team with 261 yards on 46 rushes (5.7/rush). Harrison scored twice and finished second in ground touchdowns behind DeMarco Corbin who made the most of his 34 carries for 97 yards by crossing the goal line six times.
Sabree Curtis Jr. led the team in rushing in 2017, but was injured on his first carry, which went for four yards, during the opening drive of the first game of the year. Curtis, as well as Seth Rowland, Jordan Bell and Andrew Knox return to form a deep corpse. Mercer transfer Charlie Davidson, Jacksonville graduate Will Montgomery and freshman Chris Joyner add to the mix.
