NASHVILLE --- Vincent Sellers matched a Football Championship Subdivision record, which propelled him to a pair of adidas Ohio Valley Conference of the Week awards.
Sellers returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the Tigers 45-21 win at Eastern Kentucky. The true freshman became the 29th player in FCS history to record two pick-sixes in a game. The feat earned him the OVC Defensive and Newcomer of the Week awards.
With TSU holding a 24-21 lead late in the contest, Sellers stepped in front of a pass and evaded several Colonels for a 34-yard return with 6:40 to play. Less than three minutes later, Sellers once again intercepted an EKU pass and sprinted 44 yards untouched for his second score, giving TSU a commanding 38-21 lead.
The Sarasota, Fla. native also had a team high eight tackles, seven solos and added a pass breakup to his night.
The award is the second Newcomer award for Sellers this season after being named for his performance in the opening week win at Georgia State.
Sellers was also honored by College Sports Madness as the OVC Defensive Player of the Week.
