NASHVILLE --- Patrick Smith was named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Specialist of the Week for his performance in Tennessee State’s 17-15 win over Jackson State at the Southern Heritage Classic.
Smith scored the deciding touchdown late in the fourth quarter as he returned a punt 56 yards untouched to the end zone. It was the first punt return for a score by a Tiger since August 30, 2014 when De’Andre Saunders traveled 45 yards against Edwards Waters in the John Merritt Classic.
Smith earned OVC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 23, 2016 and was selected as both Offensive and Newcomer of the Week back on Nov. 8, 2015. This was the senior’s first Specialist award of his career.
A week ago Vincent Sellers and Chris Collins received Player of the Week honors for their performances in Tennessee State’s 17-10 win over Georgia State. Sellers was selected as the Newcomer of the Week, while Collins earned Defensive Player of the Week.
