NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State football team held its annual Senior Kick-Off Luncheon to honor this year’s seniors on Friday at the Millennium Maxwell Hotel.
The event, which got underway at 10:45 a.m., brought members of the Big Blue family together including supporters, fans, coaches, cheerleaders and members of the band for a meal to honor the senior class.
Former Tiger Sonny Lyons (1971-74) again served as the Master of Ceremonies for the event.
After TSU President Dr. Glenda Glover welcomed the crowd, Lee Brown delivered the invocation. Lunch followed with Athletics Director Teresa Phillips next on the podium to thank the attendees.
Speaking on behalf of the football team were senior offensive lineman Ty Allen and senior linebacker Chris Collins. Allen and Collins spoke about the upcoming season and what their TSU career has meant to them. Head Coach Rod Reed wrapped up the event by speaking about the senior class and recognizing TSU's supporters in attendance.
Next up for TSU is Fan Day at the Indoor Practice Facility, which is scheduled for tomorrow from 1-3 p.m. The event will allow fans to meet this year’s team and get autographed posters. There will also be music, the cheerleaders, inflatables for the kids and giveaways.
Tennessee State will open the 2017 season on Thursday, Aug. 31 against Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga. Game time is set for 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT).
