BRENTWOOD, Tenn. --- Ezra Robinson has been named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in a 35-28 win over Eastern Kentucky.
Robinson collected two interceptions, including a 93 yard pick-six which proved to be the difference in the win over EKU. The return tied for the second longest in school history, matching Garr Holland who accomplished the feat in 1999. The effort is second only to Dave Coleman’s 97 yard interception return versus Grambling in 1979.
The senior’s second interception came with ten minutes remaining in the game. Robinson took advantage of a tipped ball at his own eight yard line to end an EKU scoring threat.
The two picks increased the seniors total to four on the season. Robinson is first in the OVC and sixth in the nation with 0.7 interceptions per game. The cornerback also had two breakups and is ranked fourth in FCS play with 1.8 passes defended per game.
Robinson finished the game with five tackles (four solo) and kept EKU’s top receiver, Devin Borders, out of the end zone.
This is the first award for the Sarasota, Fla. native and the fifth of the season for TSU.
The Tigers step out of OVC play for a matchup with crosstown foe Vanderbilt on Saturday, Oct. 22.
