NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State football team took a day off from the gridiron as the close of Camp 2016 nears. The Tigers used day 12 of campo to participate in freshmen move-in day, as they arrived at 5:30 a.m. to assist the unloading of vehicles and carrying items to rooms.
The Tigers reported to the indoor practice facility for a 2:30 p.m. practice, but were surprised with two buses ready to take them for a day out.
Head Coach Rod Reed rewarded the squad with an outing at Donelson Bowl for an afternoon out of the heat and a few games of bowling. Reed has made it annual occurrence to surprise the team with a day off, including a trip to the movie theater a year ago.
The Big Blue will return to the practice field on Thursday morning for the first of two practices on the day. Friday marks the last single-practice day before coming out on Saturday for the final two-a-day practice of the year.
A scrimmage in Hale Stadium on Saturday evening will close out the two and a half week practice session. The contest is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. and is open to the public.
The Tigers will begin their regular season schedule on Monday as classes begin at TSU.
