NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Running back Erick Evans has been named adidas co-Newcomer of the Week by the Ohio Valley Conference for his play at Tennessee Tech.
Evans registered his best day as a Tiger by amassing 168 total yards and two touchdowns as Tennessee State fell 30-24 in the final game of the season. Both scores came on the ground as Evans ran for 111 yards on 28 carries. It was the first 100-yard game for Evans in his first start, as he filled in for injured seniors, Telvin Hooks and Tom Smith.
Evans found the end zone as he found an opening around the right side of the line and went 22 yards untouched to register a score in his fourth consecutive game. Evans crossed the goal line from one yard out early in the second quarter scoring his sixth touchdown of the year.
The North Texas transfer was used as a receiver out of the backfield as he hauled in six passes for 57 yards.
Evans is the third Tiger to receive the OVC Newcomer of the Week award this season. Quarterback O’Shay Ackerman-Carter was honored on Sept. 7, while wide receiver Patrick Smith was named on Nov. 8.
