NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State quarterback O’Shay Ackerman-Carter picked up his second weekly award of the season, earning STATS FCS National Freshman of the Week on Monday following the Tigers’ 35-25 victory over Jackson State on Saturday.
The red-shirt freshman signal-caller from Jacksonville, Fla. completed 15 of his 26 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns against Jackson State in Saturday’s Southern Heritage Classic. Ackerman-Carter led the Tigers on five scoring drives, two of which were capped by 64-yard touchdown passes.
Playing in the Liberty Bowl in front of a crowd of 48,385, the rookie completed passes to six different receivers with Joe Bowens, Patrick Smith and Chris Sanders-McCollum all registering touchdown catches.
Last week, Ackerman-Carter was also recognized as the Adidas OVC Newcomer of the Week after TSU’s win over Alabama State.
The Tigers, who are off to their first 2-0 start since 2012, jump into Ohio Valley Conference play with a matchup at Jacksonville State on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.
