NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference named O’Shay Ackerman-Carter as co-Newcomer of the Week.
Ackerman-Carter was named the John Merritt Classic Offensive MVP after leading Tennessee State in a come from behind, 24-14 win over Alabama State.
The red-shirt freshman finished his first collegiate game by connecting on 20 passes in 37 attempts, for a 54% completion rate, totaling 188 yards through the air.
Ackerman-Carter teamed up with Patrick Smith for a 19-yard touchdown pass on the third play of the fourth quarter for the first of three Tiger touchdowns in the final stanza.
The Jacksonville, Fla. product also carried the ball nine times for 38 yards, a 4.2 yards per carry.
Ackerman-Carter was efficient in keeping drives alive throughout the game as he was 8-of-14 (57%) on 3rd Down conversions, while running for another. TSU was 11-of-21 for the game.
The Tigers will travel to Memphis on Saturday, Sept. 12 to face Jackson State in the Southern Heritage Classic.
