NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University athletic department held its annual Senior Kick-Off Luncheon on Friday at the Millennium Maxwell Hotel to honor the football team’s 15 seniors.
Big Blue supporters, fans, coaches, cheerleaders and members of the band met at the Nashville hotel at 11 a.m. for a catered meal to honor the 15-member senior class.
Former Tiger Sonny Lyons, who played for the football team from 1971-74, served as the Master of Ceremony for the event. TSU President Dr. Glenda Glover welcomed the crowd, and a video introduction from TSU Director of Athletics Teresa Phillips was shown.
After the seniors were introduced, senior tight end Joe Bowens spoke about this year’s offense before senior defensive back Bernell Brooks talked about the defensive side of the ball. The final speaker of the day was Head Coach Rod Reed.
With the season right around the corner, the Tigers will scrimmage tomorrow as the final tune-up before the regular season.
Tennessee State kicks off the year with the John Merritt Classic versus Alabama State on Sunday, Sept. 6. Game time from Nissan Stadium is set for 6 p.m.
