NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State football players Anthony Bass and De’Ante Saunders were named FCS Athletes of the Week by the Beyond Sports Network, on Wednesday.
Bass tallied four tackles against Jackson State last Saturday, 3.5 of which went for loss. The senior from Clarksville, Tenn. also recorded 2.5 sacks in the 35-7 victory.
The defensive end is now tied for second in the nation in sacks with five on the year.
Saunders intercepted two passes against Jackson State and ran his first one back 45 yards for a touchdown when the score was just 14-0.
The Deland, Fla. native has recorded three picks in his last two games, and is tied for the lead in the FCS in interceptions per game (1.0).
Saunders also recorded three tackles and broke up one pass against the Tigers en route to being named the Defensive MVP of the Southern Heritage Classic.
Bass and Saunders helped a defensive unit that held JSU to minus-one yard rushing, a one-for-16 line on third down tries and recorded seven sacks.
