Saunders Named TSWA Defensive Player of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State senior De’Ante Saunders was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Defensive Player of the Week for his role in the Tigers’, 48-33, win at Murray State on Saturday.

Saunders posted 13 tackles and one interception in TSU’s season-ending victory on the road.

The DeLand, Fla., native collected nine solo stops and his OVC-leading fifth interception of the season preceded the Tigers second touchdown of the game and a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

The senior’s previous high for stops this season was six in September against Tennessee Tech.

Saunders was also named All-Ohio Valley Conference on Tuesday.
