NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Junior defensive end Gabe Terry was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week by the league office, Sunday.
Terry anchored the Tennessee State defense that limited Florida A&M to 224 yards of total offense and one touchdown in a 27-7 victory on Saturday at LP Field. The Tigers defense, ranked first nationally (207.4 yards/game allowed), had 12 total tackles-for-loss, seven sacks and two interceptions.
The Palm Beach, Fla. product finished the game with three sacks and five total tackles. He sacked the Rattlers quarterback on 3rd-and-11 to force a punt at the end of the first half, added another third down sack in the third quarter and his final sack was on fourth down deep in TSU territory to begin the fourth quarter.
Terry ranks fourth nationally in sacks (1.40/game) while the TSU team ranks first nationally in that category (5.0).
It marks the fourth time in five weeks this season that a Tennessee State player has been named Defensive Player of the Week.
