Nashville, Tenn. – On Thursday, kicker Jamin Godfrey and tight end A.C. Leonard were named Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) Players of the Week via a fan vote.
For Godfrey, he connected on two field goals and added four extra points against the Golden Eagles. The senior nailed a 39-yarder to account for the only scoring of the second quarter and then added a 22-yarder midway through the third quarter to increase TSU’s advantage to 20-7. His lone miss on the night was a 52-yard attempt at the end of the first half.
Godfrey also successfully kicked and recovered an onside kick for Tennessee State in the second half.
Godfrey is now just three points away from fourth place on TSU’s career scoring list and he currently ranks third nationally in field goals made per game (2.3).
Leonard caught a season-high five passes for a career-high 122 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Leonard’s two scores both occurred in the second half and helped the Tigers run away with their first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season.
The Jacksonville, Fla. native now has a team-high 16 catches for 219 yards and an average of 13.7 yards per grab. His two touchdowns at Cookeville were the first of his 2013 campaign.
TSU will go for win number four on Sept. 28 when the squad travels to St. Louis, Mo. for a matchup with Central State in the Gateway Classic.
