Tiger Camp: Tempo Picks Up

Nashville, Tenn. - The tempo increased on both sides of the ball Tuesday during the first weekday scrimmage of fall camp for Tennessee State.

"We came out and the tempo was so fast, we finished about three periods early," explained head coach Rod Reed. "That’s what you want to see. We actually went over some plays and started some stuff over because we were moving at such a fast pace. I was real excited about that."

Compared to Monday, the defense did a much better job at stuffing the run at the line of scrimmage and limiting the ground game.

"We expect our offensive to make big plays, but we want to minimize those big plays defensively," Reed said. "I thought we came out and had a good day on defense."

TSU will alternate between one practice a day and two-a-day practices throughout the final two weeks of camp. With the change in schedule comes a change in the physicality.

"At this point in two-a-days, guys are starting to feel a few pains and getting some bumps and bruises," said Reed. "They want to feel sorry for themselves a little bit. We as coaches can’t let that happen. We have to keep our tempo up, we have to keep the energy up at practice, the coaches also. We as coaches have to do our jobs."

TSU will have a special teams practice starting at 5:45 pm on Tuesday.

Fan Day Set

TSU Fan Day will be Saturday, Aug. 25 at the indoor practice facility. Fans are invited to come out and collect autographs and photos with the 2012 football team.
