TSU Falls to Air Force

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The strong rushing attack from the Air Force Academy pushed the Falcons to a 63-24 victory over Tennessee State University in front of 33,487 at Falcons Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

In total, Air Force (2-1) amassed 595 yards on the ground attack, while throwing 197 yards for a school-record 792 yards. Tennessee State (1-3) put together 394 total offensive yards, including 206 passing yards.

Redshirt-freshman Mike German had a career day, completing six attempts for 172 yards and a touchdown. Senior Jeremy Perry came in for TSU, throwing 3-for-7 with 34 yards and a touchdown pass.

Defensively, TSU forced three Air Force fumbles and recovered two.

On the ground, Trabis Ward totaled a team-leading 98 yards with a touchdown. Calvin McNairl led TSU with two catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Devin Wilson followed with four receptions for 88 yards.

Air Force took an early 14 point advantage with back-to-back 60-plus yard drives. Fullback Mike DeWitt tallied a four-yard touchdown, while Asher Clark ran seven yards to put the Falcons up 14-0 with 6:09 left in the first.

TSU responded with an explosive deep pass. German tossed an 80-yard pass to McNairl at the 5:24 mark in the opening quarter. The pass was the longest touchdown play for the Tigers this season.

A 34-yard touchdown pass from Air Force's Tim Jefferson to Mikel Hunter resulted in a 21-7 lead for the Falcons with 12:30 left in the first half.  The Academy tacked on another rushing touchdown at 8:28 to extend their advantage to 21-points.

The Tigers responded once again as German connected to Devin Wilson on a 67-yard pass. TSU's Jamin Godfrey nailed a 43-yard field goal to end the first half.

Ward inked his third touchdown of the season with a one-yard scamper in the third quarter to make it a 49-17 contest.

Perry threw an 18-yard toss to McNairl to give TSU their 24th point of the game with 42 seconds left in the game.
