German Collects Fourth Newcomer of the Week Award
For the fourth time this season, Tennessee State University redshirt freshman quarterback Michael German was named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week as announced by the league office on Sunday.

German, a native of Pompano Beach, Fla., completed 64 percent (16-of-25) of his passes for 263 yards and a career-high three touchdowns in TSU's 35-30 win against UT Martin.

Saturday marked the third time that German had reached 250-plus yards passing this season, becoming the first freshman quarterback at TSU to accomplish that feat.

In the third quarter, German threw a 77-yard strike to Travis James, helping the Tigers take a 28-17 advantage over the Skyhawks.

So far this season, German has completed 115 passes for 1,645 yards and 11 touchdowns in nine games this season.

The weekly honor was the fourth for German this season. He previously earned OVC Newcomer of the Week accolades for his performances against Austin Peay, Southeast Missouri and Tennessee Tech.

Saturday's win over UTM gave the Tigers (5-5, 4-3 OVC) a share of the Sgt. York Trophy. TSU can bring home the trophy if Austin Peay falls to Tennessee Tech next weekend. TSU is above .500 in the Ohio Valley Conference for the first time since the 2008 campaign.

Tennessee State hosts Jacksonville State on Saturday, Nov. 19 for Fan Appreciation and Senior Day. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
