Tuesday, July 12, 2011

Nashville, Tenn. - Tennessee State University Football's defensive end, Lamar Wallace, broke ice for the Tigers' 2011 preseason selections when the Consensus Draft Services (CDS) placed him on their Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Preseason All America Team.

Wallace received an honorable mention and becomes the eighth member of TSU Football named to either a CDS-FCS or HBCU, preseason or post season squad.

Last year, Wallace (6'3, 255 lbs) started all 11 contests in his first season as a starter while leading the defensive line in tackles with 47 (17 solo, 30 assists). He finished fourth on the team in the category.

The junior Baton Rouge, La. native also closed out 2010 with 5.5 tackles for a loss, totaling 24 yards, including three sacks for minus 20 yards. He recorded four quarterback hurries, two blocked kicks while forcing and recovering a fumble.

He joins Eugene Clifford (2008-2010), JuJuan Spillman (2008), Brandon Jackson (2008), Marcus Broxie (2008), Roger Morris (2008), and current teammates John Jones, Jr. (2009) and Rico Council (2008-2009) on the list of TSU's CDS All Americans.

At the start of the 2010 campaign, Council, Broxie, Jones, and Clifford were named to the CDS preseason HBCU squad with Clifford also picking up a selection to the FCS team early last year.

Wallace picks up this year's honor with eight other football players in the Ohio Valley Conference with six receiving a honorable mention.
