Clifford adds to preseason resume with Sports Network selection

Nashville, Tenn. - Preseason selections keep rolling in for Tennessee State University Football's Eugene Clifford as he was named to the highly recognized, The Sports Network 2010 FCS All-America Preseason Team.

Clifford was selected to the third team defensive squad receiving his sixth selection to a 2010 preseason group. The announcement comes after Clifford was selected to the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Team on Monday (7/26) at the league's football media day.

The Sports Network (TSN) becomes the third media outlet to recognize the senior for the upcoming season. In addition to The Sports Network and OVC teams, he was named to both Consensus Draft Services' FCS and HBCU squads along with selections to Phil Steele's OVC and FCS teams.

On Monday, Clifford recognized his teammates for his preseason accolades telling the OVC media,  "If it were not for the team, I would not have received any selections, added Clifford. "I want to be able to live up to it and do the best that I can do this season."

In 2009, the senior and native of Cincinnati, Ohio was named to the OVC first team finishing the season as TSU's third leading tackler. He was credited with 60 stops (34 solo); two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, seven pass deflections and five break-ups.

He tacked on two scores from a 69-yard interception return and the other courtesy of a 78-yard fumble recovery. The score from the fumble is the longest in modern TSU football history.

Clifford's career preseason selection totals nine not including six post-season honors. He joins four other players from the OVC on The Sports Network Preseason FCS All-America Team. The players form the OVC include: Austin Peay senior kick returner Terrence Holt and Eastern Kentucky junior defensive back Jeremy Caldwell were second-team selections while Murray State senior kick returner Marcus Harris, Jacksonville State senior defensive back T.J. Heath join Clifford on the third team.
