Nashville, Tenn. - With the start of the 2010 football season close at hand, Tennessee State University's defensive back Eugene Clifford adds to his preseason honors after being selected to the Boxtorow.com/BASN 2010 Preseason HBCU All-America Team.

All selections make up the first team with Clifford joining players from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). Boxtorow.com/BASN becomes the fourth media outlet to recognize the senior for the upcoming season.

Clifford makes his seventh preseason squad in 2010 after selections to The Sports Network and Ohio Valley Conference teams. He was also named to both Consensus Draft Services' (CDS) FCS and HBCU squads along with selections to Phil Steele's OVC and FCS teams.

During OVC Media Day (7/26), Clifford recognized his teammates for his preseason accolades telling the media, "If it were not for the team, I would not have received any selections, added Clifford."I want to be able to live up to it and do the best that I can do this season."

In 2009, the senior and native of Cincinnati, Ohio was named to the OVC first team finishing the season as TSU's third leading tackler. He was credited with 60 stops (34 solo); two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, seven pass deflections and five break-ups.

He tacked on two scores from a 69-yard interception return and the other courtesy of a 78-yard fumble recovery. The score from the fumble is the longest in modern TSU football history.

Clifford adds his tenth career preseason selection not including six post-season honors.
