Tigers Open Season At Alabama A&M
Fourth year head football coach James Webster, Jr. will lead the Tennessee State Tigers to open the 2008 season on the road August 30, at Alabama A&M. The Tigers and Bulldogs have opened the season as opponents in four of the last five years, with AAMU winning the last three games in a row. TSU is playing on the road for Labor Day for the first time in nine years.
The Tigers will open the current campaign with a core of veteran players looking to improve on a 5-6 record in 2007. TSU’s hopes for success against the Bulldogs are pinned on a potent offense and a rejuvenated defense.
“We have come out of preseason camp without any serious injuries,” said coach Webster. “We’ve had a hard-hitting camp and the players have responded well. I think we are ready for this first big test (at Alabama A&M).” “We are an improved team over last year, with more speed, athleticism and strength ...but we are relatively inexperienced.” Webster concluded saying, “On paper, this may be the best team, talent-wise, we’ve had since I’ve been here (at TSU), but we have to prove it on the field. Alabama A&M has a great program and will be a true test of where we are to start the season.”
