TSU Offensive Center to Play in All-Star Game
Cecil Newton, a four-year letterman at Tennessee State University Tigers and a two-time All - Ohio Valley Conference first-team player on the offensive line, has accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Football game in Houston, Texas on January 17, 2009.
Newton, a 6-2, 305 lb center from Atlanta, Georgia was the leader of an offensive line that blocked for a 1000+ rusher in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and a team that averaged over 200 ypg for two straight seasons (2007, 2008).
In 2008 season, he graded out an average of 90 % per game...Had 30 knock down blocks and did not give up a sack .
In 2007, Newton had 24 pancake blocks along with 40 knock downs. Newton graded out a winner for all 11 games ,and he only gave up 3 sacks the entire 2007 season.
Newton is an athletic linemen who can run and block at both levels. Newton has shown the ability to be a very good, accurate deep snapper.
He is the son of Cecil and Jackie Newton. His father Cecil, Sr., played at Savannah State and later with the Dallas Cowboys.
