A pair of Tennessee State University football players, Eric Benson and Shaun Richardson, garnered OVC Player of the Week honors for their efforts in the Tigers' 33-32 win at Austin Peay (09/15). Benson, a kicker, is a 5-10, 189, Jr., from Rowlett, Texas was named OVC Specialist of the Week. For second straight week, Benson's foot makes the difference for Tennessee State. A week after kicking the game-winning field goal as time expired against Jackson State, Benson was 2-of-3 in PAT kicks and 2-of-2 in field goal attempts in the Tigers 33-32 overtime victory over Conference foe Austin Peay. His career-best 43-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining in regulation tied the game at 26-26 and forced overtime. His PAT kick in overtime proved to be the game-winner. Richardson, a defensive end, is a 6-3, 250, Sr., from St. Louis, Missouri was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Despite playing with a strept throat, Richardson made huge impact in the Tigers' 33-32 overtime victory over Austin Peay. He finished with five tackles (4 solo), two sacks (for a loss of 16 yards), four tackles for a loss of 20 yards, had one quarterback hurry, forced two fumbles and returned a fumble recovery for a 73-yard touchdown. On one single play, Richardson forced a fumble, recovered it and outraced everyone for the 73-yard touchdown to put TSU up 10-7 in first half.
