Tennessee State used a dominating first half offensive surge to defeat intra-state and OVC rival Tennessee Tech 45-28. The win evens the Tigers overall record to 3-3 and keeps them undefeated, 2-0, in conference play.

TSU quarterback Antonio Heffner led all rushers with 139 yds (14 carries) and passed for 138 yds (11-20-0) and 3 TDs to pace the Tigers in the win. RB Javarris Williams added 101 yds rushing with 2 TDs as TSU rolled up 458 yds of Total Offense (320 rush, 138 pass).

Defensively, Nashon Bigham led the Tigers with 7 tackles (1 solo) and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was credited with 6 tackles (5 solo) and 1 pass break-up.

For Tennessee Tech, freshman RB Henry Sailes rushed for 98 yds on 4 carries with a long of 71. Tech playing without their top two quarterbacks managed just 280 yds of Total Offens (131 rush, 149 pass). Their #3 QB Cass Barnes was knocked out of the game near the end of the first half and their fourth option Steven Brown accounted for 105 yds of passing (9-14-1) in the second half.

With the win, the Tigers push their record to an unblemished 2-0 in the OVC's Sgt. Alvin York Cup. The Sgt. York series is played between the four Tennessee OVC schools and guarantees TSU no less than a tie for the inaugural cup series.
