WEBSTER UNHAPPY WITH SCRIMMAGE EFFORT
Sunday, August 19, 2007
Tennessee State University head football coach James Webster huddled his team on the turf of Hale Stadium at the conclusion of Saturday's (8/18) scrimmage and blasted his team on their effort for the evening. "I'm embarrassed," barked Webster. "If we were playing a game tonight, the outcome would not be pretty." Webster continued, saying, "There was no intensity or enthusiasm in your play. We cannot win games or compete for championships with the effort you (players) showed at this scrimmage. We have just finished two weeks of practice, we're midway though drills and this was your mid-term. You did not get a passing grade as far as I'm concerned." Webster concluded saying, "You (players) better believe that we (coaches) are going to work you harder on intensity and execution to have you ready for our opening game. We can't beat Alabama A&M, a team that has beaten us two years in a row, ... or any team for that matter, with the effort you showed us on this night." The Tigers will take the field for single practices, from 6-9p, on Sunday (9/19) and Monday (9/20). They are scheduled for two practices, 9:35-11:25a and 6-9p, on Tuesday (9/21). Wednesday's 6-9p practice is scheduled to be a controlled scrimmage with OVC officials similar to Saturday's (9/18) scrimmage. The Big Blue senior players will be honored on Monday (9/20) at the 12th annual Senior Kick-Off Luncheon at the Loew's Vanderbilt Hotel. The luncheon is set to begin at 11:00a.
