TSU WON'T FORFEIT FOOTBALL WINS
Thursday, November 2, 2006
From the Tennessean Newspaper (Thursday, November 2, 2006) Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner Dr. Jon Steinbrecher announced Wednesday (11/01) that Tennessee State's football team would not be forced to forfeit any of its wins as a result of using an ineligible player. Lamar Divens, a defensive lineman and transfer from Vanderbilt, was determined to be ineligible on Oct. 2 because of erroneous information filed by Vanderbilt officials to the NCAA. Divens had played in TSU's first three games, including wins over Jackson State and Murray State. "Based on the information Tennessee State was given it was reasonable for Tennessee State to conclude that Lamar Divens was eligible to play," Steinbrecher said. "Tennessee State did not and should not have had any reason to believe he was not eligible."
