Friday, March 23, 2007
Tennessee State University head football coach James Webster will put his charges through a full contact scrimmage on Saturday, March 24th , to mark the end of the first week of spring drills. The scrimmage is scheduled for 11:30a in Hale Stadium on the TSU main campus. "We are looking to see how well our offensive and defensive units are picking up the schemes we have studied in the off-season," said Webster. "We have done a decent job in our off-season training, and we (the coaching staff) want to see how this translates into execution." The Tigers finished the 2006 season with a 6-5 record and were in the hunt for the Ohio Valley Conference championship into the last week of the season. Tennessee State University was rated as the "Most Improved Football Team" by Somis Sports, improving from a 2-9 record in 2005. TSU will head into the 2007 season returning four All-OVC players in first team quarterback Antonio Heffner and defensive back Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Running back Javarris Williams and offensive lineman Cecil Newton are 2nd team All-OVC players returning to this year's squad. The Tigers will continue spring drills until they are concluded on Saturday, April 14th with the Blue and White Spring Game. The spring game will be the central piece of the TSU Spring "Triple-Play Saturday", which will feature the Tigers' softball and track teams hosting events on campus the same day.
