NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State's 2006 football recruiting class has been ranked fourth nationally among HBCU I-AA schools, as selected by Matt Dougherty, executive director of the Sports Network I-AA football in conjunction with From the Press Box to the Press Row website. The Tiger were selected only behind Jackson State, Hampton, and Grambling State. TSU finished above South Carolina State, Delaware State, Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, Alabama A&M, and Alcorn State in the top 10. "I think this shows TSU Tiger fans that we are working hard to get the program back to where we all want it to be," said TSU head coach James Webster. "We sat down and we had three areas that we wanted to address in our recruiting, quarterback, size, and speed and we feel that we were successful in meeting those needs." The Tigers signed 20 players on the opening day of signing period and also added pair of mid-year transfers who will be set for the 2006 season. "This recognition is a very positive statement for the university administration and athletic administration that there is a commitment to building solid program," said Webster. "We are all excited about the addition of the player who will be joining our program." Webster has been interviewed about the recruiting class by Donal Ware, founder and CEO of DWCOmmunications which presents the From the Press Box to the Press Row website.
