NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State gets an early start to the Ohio Valley Conference schedule when the Tigers travel to play Tennessee-Martin Saturday (Sept. 17). The game has a kickoff at noon. The Tigers will be making their second trip in as many seasons to play the Skyhawks on their home turf. Last year, TSU left Graham Stadium with a 27-14 victory. This season, the Tigers are under the direction of new head coach James Webster. TSU got into the win column with a 20-14 overtime victory over Jackson State in the Southern Heritage Classic to even the Tigers' record at 1-1. Tennessee-Martin enters the new season with the optimism to turn its fortunes around. The Skyhawks placed four players on the 2005 All-OVC preseason team, the second most behind Eastern Illinois total of six players. UTM began its season with a 35-34 win over Central Arkansas, before falling behind early at Division I Arkansas State, losing 56-7 last Saturday. The Tigers have four tailbacks that saw action last week. Freshman K.J. Austin-Bruce was named the OVC Newcomer of the Week, leading TSU with 67 yards on 11 carries in his first collegiate game. TSU's defense was led by Jamar Landrom, the Defensive MVP of the 16th Southern Heritage Classic who was later added as the OVC Defensive Player of the Week. Landrom had several big plays with six solo tackles, and recorded three tackles for loss, two sacks, and forced a fumble.
