TIGERS' PAUL THOMAS NAMED OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State senior defensive end Paul Thomas has been named OVC Defensive Player of the Week for his play in the Tigers' 21-20 victory over Jackson State in the 2004 Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis on Saturday night. Thomas, a returning first team All-OVC selection and a candidate for the Buck Buchanan Award, came through with several big plays in the victory. Thomas had nine total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and blocked two short field goals in the game against Jackson State. "Paul has been outstanding for us ever since his arrival on campus," said head coach James Reese. "You can't say enough about how hard he plays and what he means to our team." Thomas is the second TSU player in as many weeks to receive the OVC Defensive Player of the Week award. Defensive back Justin Williams received the award last week. Tiger running back Charles Anthony was the offensive award winner each of the first two week. The Tigers play another traditional rival next week when they take on Florida A&M in the Atlanta Classic.
