TSU'S CHARLES ANTHONY FIFTH IN PAYTON AWARDVOTING FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR

NASHVILLE --- Charles Anthony has finished fifth in the Walter Payton Award voting for the second consecutive year. The award, which goes to the top Division I-AA player in the nation, is named in honor of Walter Payton, the Chicago Bears great who played his college football at Jackson State. The finalists were announced Monday by the Sports Network. Anthony had five first place votes and 98 total points. Erik Meyer, who led Eastern Washington, to an upset win over top-ranked Southern Illinois, was fourth with 131 total points. The top three finalists are quarterbacks Lang Campbell (William & Mary) and Dustin Long (Sam Houston State) and receiver DaVon Fowlkes (Appalachian State). The winner will be announced Dec. 16 in Chattanooga. Anthony finished his career as the second all-time leading rusher in the Ohio Valley Conference. He finished his career with more than 5,000 rushing yards. He led all Division I-AA players in rushing this season.
