TSU'S CHARLES ANTHONY EARNS OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK HONORS

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State junior running back Charles Anthony has been named Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his play in the Tigers season-opening 37-20 victory over South Carolina State in the John Merritt Classic. Anthony, a 5-10, 185-pound junior from Orlando, Fla., scored three TD's in the Tigers victory. He rushed for 117 yards on 20 carries and had three receptions for 77 yards, including a 62-yard TD on a screen pass in the win. ?Charles is a key player in our offense and one that we want to utilize as much as we can,? said Tiger head coach James Reese. ?He is certainly deserving of this award and his and our team's season is off to a very good start.? The OVC office announced the first weekly awards of the 2003 season Labor Day afternoon. Other first week winners were defensive and newcomer of the week Michael Haney of Murray State, and special teams player, punter Richie Rhodes of Jacksonville State. ### 9/1/03/lw
