Friday, March 12, 2004
NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State will begin its 2004 spring football drills Monday (March 15) and Tiger Head Coach James Reese will send his charges through 15 sessions. Spring practice will conclude with Annual Blue-White Game on Saturday, April 17 in Hale Stadium. This year's spring practice format will be different than in year's practice. The Tigers will have four practices the first week, then will have spring break before resuming drills on March 29. About 90 players are expected to participate in this year's drills. Head coach James Reese will begin his fifth season at his alma mater's helm next fall. "We are looking forward to getting on the field and getting a lot accomplished this spring," said Reese. "The guys have worked extremely hard in our off-season program this winter and are bigger and stronger." The Tigers return several key performers from last season led by All-American running back Charles Anthony. The TSU coaching staff will be looking at several players in various areas to replace the graduated starters, especially in the secondary and wide receiver positions. "Offensively, we want our quarterbacks to work on their timing and consistency," said Reese. "Defensively, we are going to work on alternating some of our front and also install more blitz packages." About 90 players are expected to participate this spring. The team will practice at 3:15 p.m. in its weekday sessions.
