Rico Council returns to his alma mater as the linebackers coach for the 2019 season under his former head coach Rod Reed.

After playing two years in the National Football League with the Atlanta Falcons and the Tennessee Titans, Council began his coaching career with local high school Mt. Juliet Christian Academy as the defensive coordinator.

Pursuing a spot in collegiate coaching, Council joined Reed’s staff as the quality control coach in 2016 while assisting the linebackers coach.

The Chattanooga, Tennessee native graduated from Tennessee State in 2011 as the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year. Throughout his tenure in blue and white, Council posted 293 tackles in his career and holds fourth place in the record books for career tackles, was a 3x All-American, named First Team All Defense 2011, Second Team All Defense 2010 and All Newcomer 2010 and holds the 10 spot in TSU’s record books for 15 tackles in a game.

Council is married to LaKenya Council and has a fish named Ralph.
