Clarksville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State women’s golf cut 14 strokes off from the first round performance at the F&M Bank Austin Peay Intercollegiate. The Tigers finished with a 346 over the final round on the Par-72, 5,960 yard Clarksville Country Club.
Kelly Merkel (89-81=170), Natalie Spicer (90-86=176), Amelia Dap (95-86=181) and Laura Bremer (101-93=194) lowered their scores from their day one scores to post the four scoring totals for TSU.
Merkel dropped eight strokes during Tuesday’s round by hitting six fairways, nine greens, making 33 putts and converting up-and-downs on 10 and 14. On the par-4, 14th, Merkel hit a drive into the right side tree line off the box and punched out to set up a wedge shot to 10 feet from the hole. The putt helped save par.
Spicer used a 4-over, 40 on the back nine to finish with the Tigers second lowest two-day total. Spicer recorded nine pars on the day as she hit nine of 13 fairways.
Dap opened the day on the par-5, 16th, where she hit one of her nine fairways and found one of the 11 greens on the day as she started with a par. Dap shot a 39 on the back nine and equaled Spicer for the second lowest Tigers score during round two.
The Tigers will compete in the final event of the fall on Oct. 28-29 at the Charles Braun Jr. Intercollegiate. The tournament hosted by the University of Evansville will consist of two 18-hole rounds.
