Clarksville, Tenn.  – Last week, Tennessee State Tigerbelle Ashontae Jackson was honored by the Clarksville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. at one of the organization’s dinners .

Jackson was awarded the Wilma “Skeeter” Rudolph Scholarship in the amount of $1,750 for her work on the track and in the classroom.

This most recent honor continues a standout season for Jackson, as the rising junior was chosen as the Ohio Valley Conference’s Female Track Athlete of the Year on May 2.

Mr. TSU and track teammate Michael Johnson thanked the sorority for its generosity on behalf of Tennessee State and the Athletic Department.

Also in attendance was TSU's Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services Dr. Johnnie Smith. In addition to her duties at Tennessee State, she is an active member and Tennessee Representative for Program Planning & Development of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

The Rudolph scholarship is named after one of TSU’s most famous alumni, Wilma Rudolph.

Rudolph graduated from Tennessee State from 1963 and during her time as a Tigerbelle she won three Gold Medals in the 1960 Olympics in Rome. She was also selected as the Associated Press’s Female Athlete of the Year in 1960 and 1961.
