Nashville, Tenn. – The Nashville City Civitan Club met on Wednesday at Swett’s Restaurant to hand out the A.D. Hancock-Walter Nipper Basketball Awards. Among those receiving recognition were Tennessee State’s Kesi Hess and Jordan Cyphers.
Athletic Director Teresa Phillips, head men’s basketball coach Travis Williams and head women’s basketball coach Larry Joe Inman joined the local civic organization to honor Hess and Cyphers for their athletic achievements.
The award was named after former Civitan members who had a vision to help young people through sports programs. It recognizes those individuals who excel on the court and in the classroom, as well as those who exemplify good sportsmanship.
Cyphers is currently a graduate student at TSU and just completed a senior campaign in which he averaged 12.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest. He also led the team with a free throw percentage of 87.
Hess also finished her TSU career this past season and was the Lady Tigers’ main scoring option, averaging 12.9 points a game. The Dublin, Ohio native was named Second Team All-OVC earlier this year.
Phillips was also on hand to witness her son Micah receive the recognition in the high school division. Micah is currently a senior at Hillsboro.
