team will return to Ohio Valley Conference competition on Saturday, Jan. 5,
2013 against Jacksonville State on the road. Game time is slated for 2 p.m. in Pete
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State (4-8, 0-1 OVC) is coming off a
disappointing, 88-25, non-conference loss to No. 12 Louisville on Monday. The
25 points was a season-low for TSU. The Lady Tigers have dropped five of their
last six and are 2-4 on the road this season.
Simone Hopes leads the team with 9.3 points and
6.8 rebounds per game while Jasmin Shuler is the second leading scorer with 9.1
ppg. Kesi Hess rounds out the top three with an average of 8.8 points per outing.
As a team, TSU is averaging 54.2 points per
outing while shooting 34.3 percent from the field and 25.5 percent from beyond
the arc. TSU is currently shooting only 67.0 percent from the free-throw line
while committing an average of 17.8 turnovers per game.
TSU averages 35.0 rebounds, 9.2 assists and 9.6

LAST TIME OUT
Tennessee State struggled the entire night
against Big East member No. 12 Louisville and fell to the Cardinals, 88-25. TSU
was outrebounded 51-23 and only managed to shoot 16.7 percent from the field.
The Lady Tigers recorded 22 turnovers in the contest and tallied one assist.
Chelsea Hudson led the team with eight points while Avery Jones registered five
ABOUT JACKSONVILLE STATE
Jacksonville State is off to a slow start this
season. The Gamecocks (0-14, 0-2 OVC) are searching for their first win of the
2012-13 campaign. JSU has conference losses to Tennessee Tech and UT Martin.
In the most recent game at UTM, the Gamecocks
fell to the Skyhawks, 93-63, on the road. Briana Morrow recorded a
double-double to lead JSU with 17 points and 10 rebounds while adding three
steals and one block.
Morrow also leads the team in scoring and
rebounding with an average of 9.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Miranda Cantrell (8.4 ppg) and Dashauna Truss
(6.4 ppg) round out the top three scorers for JSU.
As a team, JSU averages 53.4 points per outing
behind a .349 shooting percentage. The Gamecocks register 40.2 rebounds, 21.6
assists and 7.0 steals per game.
TSU vs. JACKSONVILLE STATE
Tennessee State and Jacksonville State will meet
for the 23rd time in the series history, with JSU leading, 12-10. TSU has won three of the last four meetings
including two straight. The Lady Tigers swept the series last season by
defeating the Gamecocks 67-57 on the road and 61-59 in the Gentry Center.
TSU will have a short break before making the
trip to Cookeville to face Tennessee Tech on Monday, Jan. 7. Game time is
slated for 7 p.m. in The Eblen Center.
